BACK-LASH BEGINS: LONG-TIME CHARITABLE DONORS BREAK ANONYMITY TO SUPPORT IMUS & SHOW LOW CLASS OF HOLY 'REVEREND' LES MOONVES

DURING THE WFAN RADIOTHON TODAY, MIKE FRANCESA READ AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM A COUPLE WHO'S BEEN GIVING $100,000 per year ANONYMOUSLY TO THE WFAN RADIOTHON AND CHILDREN'S CHARITIES. FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE COUPLE HAS ASKED MIKE FRANCESA TO ANNOUNCE THEIR NAMES IN ORDER TO STATE THEIR SUPPORT FOR DON IMUS: THEIR CONTRIBUTION HAS BEEN AS FOLLOWS:
  • THEY BUY THE 'YANKEE PACKAGE' FOR $100,000 AND DONATE IT BACK TO THE FOUNDATION FOR SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME. AS HAPPENED TODAY, WFAN THEN PUTS IT BACK UP FOR ANOTHER AUCTION.
I doubled my usual modest contribution with the comment (on the WFAN website) that I support Imus, Mike and Chris, and will never patronize any advertisers of WFAN, CBS, Inc. or NBC, Inc. Others must've done the same as the NY Times reports monies collected so far are ahead of last year.*** From the same article:

"With Mr. Imus now gone from their lineup, CBS Radio and WFAN were under pressure yesterday to find someone to replace him. At least temporarily, WFAN planned to install “Mike and the Mad Dog,” a sports talk show, in the morning hours that Mr. Imus had occupied, according to a company executive.

But the prospect of such added responsibilities did not stop the two hosts — Mike Francesa and Christopher Russo (the “Mad Dog”) — from blistering their employer, CBS Radio, for cutting ties to Mr. Imus in the midst of the fund-raiser.

“They should know better,” Mr. Russo said on the air. “A sophomore in college handles this better.”" from the NY Times article by Bill Carter and Jacques Sternberg, "The Light Goes Out for Don Imus, 4/13/07

RIGHT ON MIKE AND CHRIS.
