• "This is my 10th year covering a baseball beat. I’ve covered players like Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Piazza, Jason Giambi, Jim Edmonds, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Armando Benitez, Randy Johnson, Tim Salmon, Cecil Fielder and Edgar Martinez. Not one of them — not even the earlier incarnation of A-Rod as a Seattle Mariner — comes close to producing the kind of visceral response A-Rod generates in fans.

He’s always the story, it seems, in good times (like now) or bad times (like the playoffs). If I write an article that centers on Alex, I know I’ll get e-mail from readers dissecting every line, looking for bias in the coverage."
