Why Sheldon Ocker left Mariano Rivera off his Cy Young ballot (11/9/05)

On Rivera, Tyler Kepner says: "His dominance seems to have had a numbing effect on voters.

''That's probably another thing that hurts him: he's had so many good seasons that, well, it's just another good season for Rivera,'' Ocker said. ''For him to get anybody's attention outside of New York now, he'd probably have to save 65 games.'' "

The Akron Beacon Journal should stop its writers from voting on baseball awards immediately.
