It was Bill Emslie who advised shipping Contreras out of Yanks---NY Times

On the advice of a Steinbrenner associate, Bill Emslie, the Yankees traded Contreras in July 2004 for long-departed Esteban Loaiza. One general manager, who asked not to be identified because of baseball's tampering rules, said Yankee relievers T. J. Beam and Matt Smith would have value in trades.

Pitching prospects like Steven White and Jeff Karstens have also drawn interest, but the Yankees' best prospects, pitcher Phil Hughes and outfielder José Tabata, are unlikely to be dealt. by Tyler Kepner, July 5, 2006

  • Mel Stottlemyre is gone, FYI. The guys that constantly blamed him, whom are they blaming now?
