Japanese baseball legend Oh to undergo stomach operation

Japanese home run king Sadaharu Oh, who managed Japan to victory in the inaugural World Baseball Classic, revealed Wednesday he will temporarily leave the Pacific League's Softbank Hawks to undergo a stomach operation.

Oh said he felt ill last week and underwent tests which showed he has a tumor in his stomach. He will enter hospital Thursday to have the tumor removed.

"I'm really disappointed to have to leave the team," said Oh. "I love the game and it's difficult to leave. But the players know what they have to do and I hope they will make it to the Japan Series."
