Ken Davidoff on Baseball Beat

Ken Davidoff tells Charley Steiner, the spin of Mitchell's supposed saintliness is a device to keep anyone from questioning his "report." If any of his numerous conflicts are/is raised, Davidoff notes, you're thrown this mantra of how everyone thinks he's a great guy, etc. He says Mitchell refuses to be questioned on any aspects of the report (which would not exist without Radomski/McNamee) or the choice of him as its author, which is part of his crafted persona, ie. 'I know better than you schmucks, go to hell.' (sample quote by me for illustration-sm)
  • Charley Steiner is one who eagerly puts up the "How could Mitchell be anything other than perfect" guys, but wouldn't say otherwise even if he thought so. Myself, I don't think a tobacco industry paid lobbyist is anywhere near perfect, for starters.
More on this point, Verducci:
  • "The Mitchell Report, which many Friends of Bud never wanted the commissioner to undertake in the first place, officially was confirmed a success Tuesday. Its eponymous author, former Sen. George Mitchell, was so kindly treated by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as some kind of unassailable hero that the committee worried more about Mitchell catching his train than explaining his methodology." (SI.com from JockReport.com).
Otherwise, Davidoff says something exceedingly vile and off base about a current Yankee player. I won't repeat it. Steiner has to know the implication is totally false but won't say a word.
