UNEQUAL TIME: NY TIMES' CURRY Peddles Yankee "hatred" 2 days in a row

If you're desperate for readers, your FIRST SENTENCE INCLUDES THE WORD "HATED" OR "DESPISED" REFERRING TO THE YANKEES. (Curry does this).

  • In his 11/10 article, he opens saying they're "despised."
  • In one of his 11/11 articles, he opens by saying, "The Yankees have now become the most hated team in Gary Sheffield'’s universe."
THE SMART GUYS AT THE NY TIMES SELL HATRED. In a separate article on 11/11, Curry settles for a headline saying reports on Matsuzaka bid "Put Yankees Out." At least he still gets to knock them. In that report, he notes the rumors to that effect are not official and from anonymous sources. Then he finds a reason to think they might be real:
  • "But Yankees Manager Joe Torre was influenced by the reports. When Torre was asked about Matsuzaka before his Safe at Home Foundation's charity event yesterday, he spoke as if the Yankees had lost out on Matsuzaka. "We'’ve put in a bid ourselves and we'’ve come up short, evidently," Torre said. "“He was obviously of great interest to us."”
(Curry, of course, goes farther, saying the Yankees were "DESPERATE" for the pitcher.) Then,
  • "But Cashman said that Torre's comments were not based on anything the Yankees had told him. "I haven't spoken to Joe about it,"” Cashman said. "“Joe is basing it on media reports."”"
Of course, the 30 minute show on Fox Sports Network tonight was entirely about HATING THE YANKEES. BAN ALL BASEBALL WRITERS FROM VOTING ON BASEBALL AWARDS IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GIVE EQUAL AIR-TIME TO OPPOSING VIEWS. Quotes from Jack Curry's NY Times article, 11/11/06
