Dibs and Kennedy couldn't lavish enough praise on Manny and the deal the Dodgers made. That's all I heard from them yesterday. On the subject of media bias, how about a couple of ex-jocks (very fine ones at that) pandering to the players. Dibs lets us know about his terrific work ethic when he played, but doesn't seem to mind Manny's unprecedented lousy disrespectful behavior. Instead of hammering Manny for his total disrespect of MLB, Boston fans and his team mates and his disregard for his end of a highly rewarding contract (for a player that is one dimensional), they heaped praise on what he was going to do for the LAD. Instead of finding substantial fault with Manny"s behaviour, they expressed dissapointment in the way the Boston players reportedly supported getting Manny out. I wonder how Kennedy would have felt if he had a player that treated him the way Manny has behaved during a tight pennant race? I guess he would have been fine with it.
Unless I just missed it, there was zero unbiased, insightful analysis of the trade by either of them. The difference in stats between Bay (with little protection) and Manny, might make a game or two difference in the next 50. Bays defense might offset the hitting difference. I had to re-look Bays stats since it sounded like he was a .240 hitter. The LAD now have a juvenile, unappreciative one dimensional nuisance (of course it's costing them only what he is really worth)
So far, Bay 1, Manny 0.
From Cleveland (I'll have fun watching Manny try to play outfield again),

I agree you do get the players' point of view with Dibs and Kennedy. Their words will only be heard by a tiny fraction of those reached by teams' and newspapers' views, which are often presented with absolute certainty whether biased or not. Dibs and Kevin did mention other players a team has turned into villains, so maybe some of it is true and can be true for any team. I think it's good to hear both sides. In the case of Manny, he did need to go to another team. And Jason Bay is ahead so far.
