Yankees #8 in MLB attendance through August 1998--Business Week

Recent past reminds: Yankee fans are not the Gravy Train often depicted. Wondering if James Dolan would be worse than Hank Steinbrenner (the Dolans have tried to buy the Yankees a few times), I found this from Business Week, 9/17/1998: Baltimore, for example, is not among the largest major-league cities, but the Orioles can afford its roster of talent
  • because they play in Camden Yards, one of the retro-style, baseball-only, downtown stadiums that are now all the rage.
The five franchises that lead in attendance this year (1998)--
  • Denver,
  • Baltimore,
  • Phoenix,
  • Cleveland, and
  • Atlanta--
all play in such stadiums. To (George) Steinbrenner's annoyance, the Yankees ranked
  • per home game through August."...
