There is nothing except Hank Steinbrenner.

To Hank, dismantling the Yankee bullpen wasn't worth a second thought. He can excuse anything now by saying, "it's for 10 years from now," as I've been hearing back on Yankee radio. What a waste of time speculating about Chamberlain as a starter, especially under the "rules" prescribed. All the ink and back pages wasted on this subject. The most telling sign for me was hearing Hank say he was going to take over "by force" if necessary next year.
  • It's been clear he wanted attention to be on him--no matter what the cost to the team, but who even wants to be in the same room with a guy who talks like this?
A headline on SportingNews.com written BEFORE tonight's game--which saw the so-called starter lifted after 2+ innings--had an idea: Article by Sean Deveney. He could've skipped the whole article and just run the headline. Hank is telling you. It's about him, not the team. (And he'll show you "by force" if necessary).
  • P.S. As recently as the late 1990's, Hank should remember his father complaining about poor attendance. Attendance improved due to teams put together when George Steinbrenner was prohibited from involvement.
  • The teams relied heavily on relief pitching in regular and post season.
  • If a team is poorly conceived and is only about Hank, seats can go back to being empty like they were before. (sm)
