Mets' Luis Castillo dogs it--NY Post
(NY Post): "Let the record show that the Mets, who missed the playoffs last year because of indifferent play, didn't get past the top of the first in their opener when they afflicted themselves with inexcusable, take-it-for-granted play. With two outs and Luis Castillo on first, Carlos Beltran hit a high fly into windy center field. Cody Ross dropped it trying to make a diving catch.
- As seen on SNY and noted by Keith Hernandez, Castillo didn't run hard on contact. Though Beltran made it to second, Castillo had to stop at third. Next, the third out was made.
An inning later, SNY rover Kevin Burkhardt, with sunshine in his voice, reported that the Mets realize how they messed up, last season, and don't want to play that way, this season.
- But they already had. Top of the first, Game 1."
