What Joba would have to do to be the "1996 Mariano"

The media community "misremembers." The adults, anyway. The younger ones never knew in the first place and don't care to. Joba vs the 1996 Mariano is almost a physical impossibility.
  • AFTER 107 and 2/3 innings in the regular season, Joba would have to pitch in 3 levels of post season play, and 3 DAYS IN A ROW IN the World Series.
For a total of 122 innings in the 1996 season. Joba's innings are restricted, Mo's were not. a combo that brings to mind a game-shortening tandem from 12 years ago, when Rivera set up John Wetteland. They often pitched to Girardi. 1996 Regular Season, Rivera:
  • In 35 games pitched 2 or more innings
  • In 8 of those pitched 3 innings
  • In 6 other games more than 1 IP
  • Total HR given up in 107.2 IP: One
1996 post season, Rivera:
  • 1996 Post Season IP: 14.1
  • 3 days in a row in the World Series
  • HR given up: zero
(Rivera had also pitched 3 innings in relief of Wettleland in extra innings in the 1995 ALDS, and earned the Win).
