Tyler Kepner opts in with non-optional info--NY Times

Boras never talks money in the presence of his client, per Mr. Kepner in the NY Times, clarifying certain other events:
  • "As a policy, Boras does not negotiate with the player he is representing present. But the Yankees wanted to meet personally with Rodriguez, to tell them how much they valued him and to see if he meant what he said about wanting to stay with the team."
All the reports that the Yankees kept calling Arod technically didn't mean anything, assuming they knew Boras' policy. Meeting with the player to discuss an offer would never have been on the table.
  • Kepner mentions a 'confidant' of Arod's says, "the Yankees angered Rodriguez with their hard-line stance about his opt-out decision and helped push him into the free-agent market."
Really? I was angered about something too. Not that I matter, but all money does flow from fans. My #1 reason for not wanting Arod is the behavior of his wife, who's an extension of him. I refer to her wearing a t-shirt saying "F--- You" to a home game, while sitting in a special Yankee "family" section. With children. Sorry, I don't drink Kool-Aid. There are limits--fans should remember they have them.
  • The last part of Kepner's article mentions progress of contracts with Posada and Rivera. Time will tell on both of those.

"As for Posada and Rivera, who are unsigned free agents, (Hank) Steinbrenner said General Manager Brian Cashman had given him positive progress reports.

“Things are looking fine with Rivera and Posada,” Steinbrenner said, adding that the Yankees had made a formal offer to Posada and an informal one to Rivera, who met with ownership last week in Tampa, Fla. “Obviously, we want both of them back.

  • We’ve always made that clear with our offers.”"
("Our offers?" An informal offer is not an offer; being 'informal' means it lacks commitment). sm
