Bernie Williams on WFAN with Mike and Chris

Bernie interviewed by Mike and Mad Dog as one of New York's favorite athletes acknowledged help of the 2 managers he worked for. He volunteered one more big influence: WILLIE RANDOLPH. Bernie said Willie and his managers taught him:
  • How to play.
  • Respect for the game. Many came before you and many will come after.
  • Your playing years will be brief.
Asked about his ability to get big hits in the biggest situations, Bernie credited a lot of preparation.
  • P.S. MIKE ASKED BERNIE HIS RECOLLECTION OF THE 1997 POST SEASON. BERNIE'S ANSWER:
  • "I MADE THE LAST OUT."
Because a different version of the 1997 Yankee post season has been publicized thousands of times to millions of people, the average person believes that Mariano Rivera ended the 1997 Yankee post season. They couldn't tell you that the home run he gave up only tied game 4, it didn't lose or end the game at that point. The game was eventually lost by Ramiro Mendoza. That wasn't even the end of the ALDS--they played a 5th game v the Indians, and after losing that (which Bernie Williams references) the series did end.
