METS STILL INTERESTED IN GUILLERMO MOTA; SAID CONTACTED ADAM KENNEDY

'The Mets still have significant interest in re-signing Guillermo Mota, despite last week's revelation that the reliever will miss the first 50 games of 2007 after failing a test for performance-enhancing drugs.
  • A person familiar with the Mets' thinking told Newsday Tuesday that the club was impressed with the accountability that Mota exhibited for his transgression. Mota, one of the Mets' many reclamation projects of 2006, excelled after being acquired from Cleveland, compiling a 3-0 record, a 1.00 ERA and a 19-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 18 appearances (totaling 18 innings).'
'Tuesday, they contacted free agent Adam Kennedy, according to a person familiar with the situation, to inform him of their interest. Kennedy, who turns 31 in January, spent the last seven seasons as the Angels' starting second baseman.' Article from Newsday by Ken Davidoff with Jim Baumbach, 11/07/06
