METS STILL INTERESTED IN GUILLERMO MOTA; SAID CONTACTED ADAM KENNEDY
'The Mets still have significant interest in re-signing Guillermo Mota, despite last week's revelation that the reliever will miss the first 50 games of 2007 after failing a test for performance-enhancing drugs.
- A person familiar with the Mets' thinking told Newsday Tuesday that the club was impressed with the accountability that Mota exhibited for his transgression. Mota, one of the Mets' many reclamation projects of 2006, excelled after being acquired from Cleveland, compiling a 3-0 record, a 1.00 ERA and a 19-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 18 appearances (totaling 18 innings).'
- Also reported El Duque interested in returning to the Mets, but sides have not begun serious talks.
- Last but not least, Ted Lilly is interested in New York teams, but they're not among "the dozen or so" who've indicated interest, according to his agent.
