Jim Leyland is tops on Sheffield's list
Jim Baumbach in NY Newsday says:
"The Chicago Tribune reported yesterday that the Cubs and White Sox are on Sheffield's list of teams. The Tigers and Padres very likely also could be included. Sheffield takes every opportunity to express his love for Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who was his manager in Florida, and he has talked about returning to San Diego, where he played early in his career.
Williams (Sheffield's attorney) confirmed yesterday that he has spoken with the Yankees about teams to which Sheffield prefers to be traded, but he declined to list them. Two weeks ago, Sheffield tried to make himself untradeable by intimating that he'd want an extension from his new team if he were dealt."
- The Yankees apparently aren't looking at a rapidly approaching deadline, but have a bit time to work the deal out.
