"Potential claims" settled with actual, real money between MLB, Inc. mgmt. & players' union

  • Do not read this post if you are a whimp. You won't care.
Of course, compromise is a big part of politics. So, the "potential" collusion complaints between owners and players ("never formally filed") were washed away (ie. paid for) and everything's fine. What did you expect them to say? "As part of the overall agreement, there was competitive-balance tax money left over from the last agreement, and we saw an opportunity to clean up the grievance procedure," Rob Manfred, baseball's executive vice president for labor relations, said Monday.
  • What? "Competitive balance tax money left over?" PROOF. THAT MONEY IS NOT BEING SPENT ON PLAYER PAYROLL, BUT SITTING IN FAT-CAT ACCOUNTS THAT BULLY REPS FROM BOTH SIDES CAN PLAY WITH AS THEY PLEASE. (Competitive balance tax money I think is luxury tax as opposed to other competitive balance tax money which is revenue sharing).
Thanks again to the Yankee fan for paying ticket prices, parking, other stadium items, cable tv, etc. that go into these fat-cat slush funds. All money flows from the fan.
  • But this is my favorite statement, showing utter contempt:
"The sides previously reached an interim settlement in which the commissioner's office both continued to provide advice on free agents and reminded clubs that they had to act individually."
