White Sox near renewal with WSCR radio, Ed and Darrin

"After kicking the tires on possibly launching an FM sports station, the White Sox are close to completing a multi year deal to continue to air their games on WSCR-AM 670, according to sources. The Sox agreement with the station expires at the end of the season. As reported here previously, the Sox have considered starting a third sports talk station in town....Sports talk also has been migrating to FM in several markets, including Boston and Philadelphia.
  • Industry insiders, though, questioned whether there would be enough listeners and advertising support for the Sox to make a third sports talk station work in Chicago. Also, there would be a downside to their games airing on FM,
which doesn't have nearly the reach of the 50,000-watt WSCR (a CBS Radio outlet).
  • Ultimately, it appears the Sox will stick with the status quo and remain on WSCR. Station officials have a close relationship with the Sox.
SCR Program Director Mitch Rosen also worked with the Sox when the team aired its games on WMVP."
