Yankee-Red Sox TV ratings for 2010 opener on YES, NESN

• Sunday night's Yankee-Red Sox opener on YES trailed only the 2005 opener. Highest viewing occurred from 8:45-9PM.

Neil Best: "Sunday's opener averaged 10.01 percent of New York-area households and 1.085 million viewers on YES, making the game the second-highest-rated and second-most-watched live regular-season sports event in New York cable TV history.

• (It trailed only the 2005 Yankees vs. Red Sox opener, which averaged an 11.64 rating and 1.21 million viewers.)

The rating for the 2010 opener peaked at 12.46 percent of homes from 8:45 to 9 p.m.

• YES also drew big numbers for its pregame show (2.22 percent of homes), postgame show (2.13) and, shockingly, a 1.31 for "The Joe Girardi Show.""

Mr. Best notes Girardi's big ratings were even for a re-run at 1AM! He adds Boston's NESN numbers:

• "(The rating for the game in Boston on NESN? 19.7. Oh, my. The pregame show on NESN did a 7.1!)"
