Bud Selig deserves to stand next to baseball heroes? No.

from Dugout Central: Bud Selig tried "to destroy the Twins to pay off now deceased owner/good buddy Carl Pohlad for a personal loan years earlier,

  • put home field advantage for yearly World Series teams in the hands of all-star players who have no chance of getting to the post season themselves
  • (Hank Blalock hitting a homer off of Eric Gagne in 2003 still sickens me),

watched players get lambasted and scorned for using any and every sort of drug, performance enhancing or otherwise, during his tenure but took absolutely no responsibility for the culture he oversaw,

  • helped negotiate a revenue sharing plan that sticks money in the pockets of low rent teams but doesn’t require them to actually use the money to make their teams better

thereby keeping the poor (at least on the field)…poor, helped noted art dealer and racketeer Jeffrey Loria abandon the Expos at the expense of the other 29 clubs to take over the more favorable Marlins,

  • and screwed the Astros out of a playoff run in 2008 when Houston was essentially forced to play
  • two ‘home’ games against the Cubs in Milwaukee.

These notable incidents were just the first ones to come off the top of my head. And these were his successes.

  • You could literally write a Warren Commission-esque dissertation on how much abuse Major League Baseball has had to endure (and yet still thrive) under the watchful eye of the vulture we know and love as Allan Huber Selig.

And to the Selig apologists and enthusiasts out there (yes, all six of you…and you know who you are) who would say “hey, wait a minute…look how popular and profitable baseball has become over the last 18 years…the 18 years of King Bud’s reign”. To you I say this….baseball thrives monetarily and in popularity

  • IN SPITE OF SELIG, NOT BECAUSE OF HIM. That’s how great our game is…a witless monkey has been in charge for nearly two decades and we’ve achieved unprecedented popularity as a sport.

Imagine if he’d even been remotely competent?

And for all his fine work the good folks and loving fans in Milwaukee (Read: his daughter Wendy Selig-Prieb and new Brewers owner Mark Attanasio) have seen fit to erect a seven foot statue of the Commish to share the Miller Park grounds with granite monuments of such greats as Henry Aaron and Robin Yount....

  • This is the equivalent of the Mets renaming Citi Field as Bernie Madoff Stadium."...

from "Today's sign of the coming apocalypse: Bud Selig gets a Statue" by Thomas Wayne, 2/8/10

(By his actions over many years Selig has shown he believes he owns all the players, all the teams, and every word and image about them. That he now envisions himself standing next to players is sick. ed.)
