Daisuke Matsuzaka hid injury from Red Sox-injured preparing for WBC

  • Dice-K's injury thought to have stemmed from the 2009 World Baseball Classic actually began before it. While preparing for the WBC, he injured his leg.
1/10/10: "Matsuzaka recently told the Japanese magazine Friday that his problems all began with a leg injury he suffered while preparing to pitch for his country and evolved, because of bad mechanics, into the shoulder injury that eventually landed him on the disabled list.
  • Dice-K admitted to the magazine that he kept the leg injury hidden from the Red Sox, according to translation of the story by The Boston Globe. He also said he tried to heal himself while remaining in the Red Sox rotation, a plan that backfired.
"In hindsight," he said, "it was impossible to continue faking the whole season. It was too much mental stress."" Players injured or diminished by the 2006 World Baseball Classic
