Robby Alomar on his time with the Mets

NY Times Bats Blog: "(Robby)Alomar is in New York this week. On Tuesday he will accompany Mariano Rivera, the Yankees’ closer, and Ray Negron, a Yankees advisor, on a trip to Columbia/Presbyterian Hospital to deliver toys to children. On Wednesday, he hopes to receive a phone call as a new member of the Hall of Fame. A news conference would be Thursday at the Waldorf-Astoria....
  • Alomar seems to have a strong chance of being there. He is on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time, in a class that includes some other excellent first-year candidates, including Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez and Fred McGriff.

  • Of his time at the Mets:

""“A ballplayer doesn’t make excuses,” Alomar said. “In New York, I don’t think we all clicked together as a team. If we would have clicked as a team, maybe we would have done a little bit better. There were a lot of big expectations from Day 1. We played good in spring training, but when it was time to play during the season, we didn’t play good, we didn’t pitch good, and we didn’t hit good. You can’t win games like that.”"
