Baseball Hall of Fame inductees no longer able to select team cap

Rob Dibble said today baseball has ended a practice enjoyed by past Hall of Fame inductees. Players are no longer able to enter wearing the team cap of their choice. The selection will be made for them (I didn't hear who now makes the decision). He did say the reason for the move was
  • to stop players from choosing one team over another for commercial or self serving business purposes.
Rob also said Catfish Hunter went into the Hall with a blank hat, feeling he could not choose one team over another.
  • Update: I read on BTF that the change in cap policy was made sometime in 2001. Poster said players still have much input.
Update #2: 1/27/10: Andre Dawson must wear Montreal Expos cap in Hall of Fame
