Pavano and his 2008 cameo all fake; 'teammates absolutely despised him'
- From Newday 'Comment Winter Olympics,' 12/19/08
baileywalk, I'd contend that Pavano chose not to pitch through conditions that other guys pitch through. He had to go doctor-shopping to find a doctor that would give him Tommy John surgery last year. In '05 and '06, the Yankees performed various tests on him that showed nothing of great concern.
- He seemed fully content to be around the team, sit back and eat candy bars while he was on the disabled list.
- He never seemed in a hurry to get back onto the roster - except this past season, when he was headed
- for free agency.
- His teammates absolutely despised him, in a way I've
- never seen in any clubhouse.
He chose the Yankees, people around him at the time think, because he had it in his head that he wanted to be a Yankee. Reggie Jackson gave him a pep talk, during a recruiting dinner, that seemed to make a real impression on Pavano."...
- (I either forgot or didn't know that Pavano began his career with the Red Sox. Not to draw any connection here, such as has been rumored in the case of Ramiro Mendoza). sm
