2008 Tigers, Yankees equals in defense
- From John Q, on December 12th, 2008
"Good article Don.
The Tigers were 24/30 in defensive efficiency.
- Yankees were 25/30.
I think defense will be the next big paridigm shift in baseball. We have a lot better measurement tools to study defense then we did 10-15 years ago and defense tends to be historically under-valued as a commodity.
The Rays were a good example of how defense can change your team instantly.
I think the trend in baseball is going to be
- ground ball pitchers with much more attention on infield defense.
Also, great defensive infields ease the burden on pitching staffs and lessen the amount of pitches that need to be thrown. So it’s a win-win. You don’t have to score 7 runs a game to win when your team holds the opposition to two runs a game."
