Andy Pettitte Admits using HGH 2 times in 2002-AP (Steve Somers on WFAN isn't sure)
NEW YORK (AP) -- "Andy Pettitte used human growth hormone to recover from an elbow injury in 2002, the New York Yankees pitcher said two days after he was cited in the Mitchell Report.
Pettitte said he tried HGH on two occasions.
''If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize,'' Pettitte said Saturday in a statement released by his agent. ''I accept responsibility for those two days.''"
- AP report published in NY Times, 12/15/07, "Pettitte Admits Use of Human Growth Hormone." Report filed at 5:17 PM. UPDATE: This NY Times headline was changed in the 6PM hour to read: "Andy Pettitte Says He Used Growth Hormone Twice."
- NONETHELESS, ON WFAN STEVE SOMERS TAKES A CALL FROM SOMEONE WHO SAYS HE'S A DOCTOR AND DOESN'T BELIEVE PETTITTE. SAYS HGH IS USUALLY TAKEN OVER A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME, THAT PETTITTE MUST NOT BE TELLING THE TRUTH.
- This was sometime between 5:35 and 5:55PM Saturday. Somers says thanks for calling, you may be right, we should also get a second opinion, but maybe Pettitte did use it for longer periods. (Andy just admitted what was in the report but Somers of WFAN ignores that and imagines Pettitte could've uses HGH for longer periods). Is Steve Somers of WFAN saying McNamee has fed him other information about Pettitte that he, Somers, is withholding? Or is it a free for all at WFAN, ie you can smear anyone, ruin anyone's life without fear of consequence yourself?

I'd like to say that the media reaction didn't surprise me becuase of how little I generally think of them. But the glee. They sound like Red Sox fans calling Weei on a Sunday after a Yankee sweep.
I wonder when they step back from the meal they are devouring if they will realize they don't have the evidence to crucify these players or the Yankees. And when does someone in the media step up and point out to the rest of them that by not actually reporting what's in the Mitchell report (such as it is. that they are in fact lying.

The NY Times has come out with a steady stream of reporters and top columnists all hyping Mitchell & Northern Ireland. Even people who claim to be nothing but Red Sox fans say how surprised they are he got to be in charge of the report (which was a xerox of Radomski's report) & note the fact that Mitchell is a huge Red Sox fan not to mention a director of the team. At least Dibble and Kennedy said the methods used for this "report" and its results were a farce and should never have been allowed.
