You want "stunned?" How about they continue to insult us with characterizations like this from the NY Times.
Quite a lengthy, sad article about how Brian Cashman is really, really in charge, along with a bunch of other stuff--confetti thrown in our face in the belief we can be distracted from reality. "The Yankees" (whatever that is today) can do whatever they want. But after years of distracting fans from what's really been going on, the information in this article only mentions Randy Levine as an afterthought, a "t" crossed, or "i" dotted--he's there, but not really key. What's the big deal with admitting Levine is what he is? They can have whatever guy in charge they want--why hide it? This treatment makes it worse.
- "At 77, Steinbrenner is retreating from the team’s day-to-day operations. His sons, Hank and Hal, have been largely removed from the business for years, although they have recently taken a more active role.
- Randy Levine, the team president, has a background in politics and law. He is responsible for major contracts, but Cashman handles daily baseball decisions."
- P.S. Oh, I see. Someone named Randy Levine "has a background" in something and is responsible for big "contracts." That's it. He's not the team spokesman, the face of the team, the new Steinbrenner, etc. At this late date, this is a sad story to read in the NY Times. (sm)
