Joe Christensen must not read the papers

In yesterdays's column about his Twins, Joe correctly notes they're catching the Yankees "at a good time," citing injuries, starting pitcher woes, etc. Hoping for juice for his column, Joe then says:
  • "One can imagine owner George Steinbrenner bouncing off walls. He's not known for his patience, and his team started the previous three seasons 8-11, 10-14 and 1-4."
Joe, it's been quite awhile since Mr. Steinbrenner could be accurately characterized in this manner. There have even been several articles by nationally known sports columnists saying writers must get over their addiction to a bombastic "Boss" to create excitement in their stories.
  • Christensen, well entrenched, knows he can say whatever he wants with no chance of negative consequence. That's what it's like in the BBWAA.
Item from Joe Christensen's column, Minneapolis Star Tribune, 4/8/07, "Twins Catch Yankees at a Good Time." (Actually, his name appears before the column).
