Torre: "There's a lot of luck involved."---NY Times

"Torre was as oddly defensive as Cashman. At one point, he seemed incredulous when asked what organizational strategy had to change for the Yankees to snap a six-year absence as World Series champions.

“But when you say it’s been 6 years, if I’m not mistaken, it was 18 years when I got here,” Torre said. “There’s a lot of luck involved.”

  • How can I root for this team now? Luck? This is the pits. (ed).

Torre isn’t paid $7 million a year to be charmed. He is paid to manage the roster, as well as the clubhouse karma. He is lauded as a communicator, but Torre could not muster a couch session effective enough to mend Rodriguez’s psyche. If Torre’s relationship with Derek Jeter is so deep, why couldn’t the manager coax the captain away from his animus toward A-Rod? Or did Torre choose sides when he dropped Rodriguez to eighth in the order?" by Selena Roberts, NY Times 10/10/06

  • THANK-YOU SELENA. YOU CONFIRMED MY WORST FEARS.
