DEAR SHEFFIELD, WHEN TORRE MOVED GIAMBI TO #7, HE HIT 2 HR

Gary felt mussed when the manager tried a different batting order, BUT IT PAID OFF WHEN IT HAPPENED TO GIAMBI IN THE POSTSEASON IN A DECIDING GAME THAT TOOK THE TEAM TO THE WORLD SERIES IN 2003:
  • ON WED. OCT. 15, GIAMBI WAS 3RD IN THE LINEUP AND HIT 1 HOMERUN.
  • ON THURS. OCT 16, GIAMBI WAS MOVED TO 7TH IN THE LINEUP AND HIT 2 HRs.
  • In Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, Red Sox-Yankees, the game went to 11 innings, finally won by the Yankees 6-5 (Mariano Rivera with 3 consecutive scoreless innings in a tie game).
  • The Yankees could not hit in that game either, and it looked like they were going to lose. Jason Giambi hit 2 solo homeruns off Pedro, BUT THAT WAS THE ONLY SCORING THE YANKEES HAD THROUGH 7 INNINGS.
Maybe Sheffield could seek counseling from Giambi on how to be sunk in the batting order but still hit homeruns.
