Stark says the Devil Rays thought they could pick up the phone anytime & get Andy Marte for Julio Lugo, & found out that wasn't so. Re: Red Sox, their 1st choice for SS is Alex Gonzales. Re: Yankees, have the same questions/problems they had during the season. Says the Red Sox have made moves, & are more prepared for the new season. The Farnsworth deal may not be a match--wrong guy, wrong place. Incredibly, Stark says the present Bernie Williams deal was made BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REACH BERNIE LAST NIGHT!!! That the Yankees were ready to sign Bernie, but had to come up with the stop gap arrangement with his agent. (That's the story, anyway). Stark thinks Bill Mueller will eventually sign with the Dodgers.
