Jim Hendry on XM re: Juan Pierre

Hendry is thrilled to have Juan Pierre. The Cubs had been trying to get him for 2 years, & very much needed a lead-off hitter. Others who know him, like Derrick Lee, speak highly of his character as well. He's also a good CF. Jim said it was a very high stakes deal, with the Cubs having to give up a lot to get Pierre. He said the Marlins were very astute & informed about every rookie in the universe. Re: Corey Patterson, was headed for stardom, but things fell apart. At worst he can run & play defense, whether with the Cubs or elsewhere. Hendry says he loves Ryan Dempster as their closer, & is glad they signed him for 3 years.
