Marlins & Rangers deals, Dallas Morning News

Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News says the clock is ticking on a 48 hour deal between Jeffrey Loria and Tom Hicks, & that the 2 owners are the ones most involved in the idea. Hicks enamored of Beckett in part because he's a Texan. And, Buck Showalter's influence is very much in view, functioning both as manager & GM. Buck likes Mike Lowell from back in the Yankee system days. Gerry says many factors at Rangers' stadium would keep "any pitcher in his right mind from coming here." Excess heat, likelihood of homeruns, jumpy infield. Re: Alphonso Soriano, they'd like to trade--same old story---he's bad at 2nd base, won't move to the outfield, and strikes out too much. The Mets might be a spot for him if they don't get Manny.
