Team mates present steel sculpture to Jeter at 3000 hits ceremony

"In a pregame ceremony honoring Jeter's historic accomplishment July 9, the shortstop was presented a Waterford crystal vase by club president Randy Levine and chief operating officer Lonn Trost. Managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner presented 14-karat white gold rings to Jeter and his father, Charles, and ring top pendants to his mother, Dot, and sister, Sharlee.

On behalf of the team, Jorge Posada -- before stealing the headlines with a six-RBI day -- and CC Sabathia presented Jeter a stainless steel sculpture with the inscription "To our captain, leader and friend. Congratulations on a great achievement, from your teammates'' emblazoned on the bottom.

"That statue, to get that from your teammates, that really stands out,'' Jeter said.
