Russell Martin gets revised home run call from John Sterling April 9, confirmed 4/23, Updated thru 9/21/12

Update, Sun. Oct. 7th, 2012, ALDS game 1 in Baltimore, Russell hits 9th inning, tie breaking home run. John Sterling gave his usual Russell Martin call but with added enthusiasm befitting its status as a 9th inning tie breaker in the post season. Final 7-2 Yankees:

•  "Russell shows muscle! Monsieur Martin est la!"

Update, Fri., Sept. 21, 2012, Russell Martin gets walk off home run in bottom of 10th v Oakland:

• "It is high, it is far, it is gone! Ballgame over! Yankees win! Thhhhhe Yankees win!" 
• Sterling didn't give the usual, 'Russell shows muscle,' etc., possibly because of the timing and pandemonium involved in this particular home run. Final in 10,  2-1 Yankees.

Update, Fri., Aug. 17, 2012, Sterling gave his usual tag for Russell Martin, "Russell shows muscle, Monsieur Martin est la!" Then noted Granderson and Martin hit home runs "back to back and belly to belly," bottom of the second v Boston.

• Update #5: Tuesday, June 5, 2012, Russell Martin hits grand slam off James Shields, his 4th career regular season. He gets the usual from John Sterling (detail from Suzyn below):

"Russell shows muscle! Monsieur Martin est la!"

• Update #4, Thursday, August 25, 2011, Russell Martin's Sterling call seems set now, for both his 4th inning and 6th inning home runs got: "Russell shows muscle! Monsieur Martin est la!" The 6th inning home run was a grand slam.

Update #3, Suzyn Waldman on WFAN with Mike Francesa, Fri., July 1st, says the "il est la" (in French, 'he is there') part of Sterling's call is borrowed from a phrase relating to the Montreal Canadiens hockey team. Martin is Canadian.

Update 2, Fri. May 13, 2011, Russell Martin hit a 2 run home run, bottom of the 5th, received same John Sterling call as delivered 4/23, so looks like this will stick:

• "Russell shows muscle, Monsieur Martin est la!"

Update, Sat., 4/23/11, Russell Martin hit a 3 run home run (his 5th of the season) in the top of the 6th v Baltimore, got the call from John Sterling. It may be the final version:

• "Russell shows muscle, Monsieur Martin est la!"

4/9, Russell Martin hit his 2nd and 3rd home runs of the season today vs the Red Sox in Boston. John Sterling's call in the 7th inning had the tag:

• "Russell with muscle, Monsieur Martin est la."

Sterling's call for Russell's 4th inning 3 run home run was the same as above except he said,

• "Russell shows muscle" instead of "Russell with muscle."

For Martin's first home run on April 2, the tag was simply,

• "Russell has muscle."
