Mike Francesa says Saratoga seeing consequence of gas prices
Mike and the Mad Dog reunited for 1 day in upstate New York for Giants Camp Day, Mike yearly spending this time in the Saratoga area notes signs there of a devastated economy, families not traveling this summer because of gas prices. Normally hotels are full, but now many are empty, restaurants you couldn't get into now half empty, everyone's business is down. He acknowledges rainy weather, but that isn't totally unique. Connects this to discussion of stadium business, the pressure to have a winning team, empty seats the consequence of not doing so. Mike and Chris echo what others say, that the Yankees will do well no matter what, but recent history doesn't reflect that belief.
- Dating from 1990, the Yankees did not become #1 in AL attendance until 2003.
- It took 8 straight years in the post season to get there. Right now, the Yankees are facing year #1 of not being in the post season. Technically, the last time this happened was 1993.
