The NY Times' slip is showing--Yankees-Royals game tonight

Showing their particular point of view, the NY Times begins its report by examining whether Andy Pettitte was "taunted" by the fans. It reaches the conclusion that the taunting wasn't too bad. The biggest drug story in baseball today is Jose Guillen who was on the field for the Royals. The NY Times does not reference:
  • Guillen's pending suspension for documented steroids purchases after 1/13/05
  • Or the fact that Guillen's power accounted for the only Royals run tonight (and it was off Pettitte).
THE NEW YORK TIMES MAKES NO MENTION OF JOSE GUILLEN'S UNIQUE PRESENCE TONIGHT, DUE TO A TEMPORARY REPRIEVE FOR RECORDS STATING HE SPENT $19,000 ON VARIOUS STEROIDS AND 3 KINDS OF HGH FROM THE PALM BEACH REJUVENATION CENTER.
  • THAT GUILLEN'S REPRIEVE WAS MIRACULOUSLY JUST IN TIME TO ALLOW HIM TO APPEAR WITH THE ROYALS AGAINST THE YANKEES.
UNLIKE MOST OTHERS ON THE SO-CALLED MITCHELL REPORT, GUILLEN'S LAST ALLEGED OFFENSE WAS AFTER 1/13/05, THEREFORE NOT PROTECTED BY THE OLD UNION AGREEMENT (which excused such players as Glaus, Schoeneweis, Ankiel, and Byrd). PERHAPS ROYALS' FANS HAVE MORE CHARACTER THAN THE NEW YORK TIMES. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A DOCUMENTED (ALTHOUGH NOT ADMITTED BY GUILLEN) PURCHASER OF STEROIDS WHO WAS LUCKY TO BE ON THE FIELD AT ALL. HOW COULD ANY HALF-SMART ROYALS FAN SAY ONE WORD ABOUT ANDY PETTITTE WHO DID NEXT TO NOTHING COMPARED TO GUILLEN? AND NOT STEROIDS WHICH INCREASES POWER FOR HITTERS.
  • Maybe Royals fans aren't hypocrites and deceivers. Maybe Royals fans are the ones with "impeccable integrity."

  • P.S. Tyler Kepner's article does not mention that the NY Times is a business partner of George Mitchell and the Boston Red Sox.
