Yankee info-tainment

A well known Yankee blog proprietor and media figure provides a great service with his blog and writing, but I'm surprised by 2 of his recent blog postings re Joe Torre. Over 12 years and 12 post seasons a fan interested and curious enough accumulated information about Torre. No doubt things will come out in the future that were not known before-good and bad. Many things will never be known.
  • The well known blogger to whom I refer has taken 2 recent statements from players to be damning and explosive proof that Joe Torre was worse than anyone could've imagined. I'm not saying he was or he wasn't, but the 2 comments should not be treated as conclusive evidence that Torre was any worse than he was.
In fact one of the statements (Giambi's) wasn't anything different from what he's said for years, ie wanting a virtual guarantee that he'd play 1B every game. (He wasn't "ready" when Torre had him DH?) Big Deal. The blog is nyyfans.com, the 2 referenced comments are listed on the left side of the front page. The 2 players who sealed Torre's reputation for the blogger were:
  • 1. Scott Patterson, the minor league pitcher, who said if Torre were still here he wouldn't have much chance to make the team. He said Torre didn't go with the best players, just the ones with more experience. Joe Girardi was different, he said.
All this says to me is Patterson's parents did a bad job raising him. His comments were rude, out of line, and contained no substantiation. They were fluffy media crap. The blogger presented the comments as long hidden proof that Joe Torre was a disaster. Very disappointed to read that analysis.
  • 2. Jason Giambi, as mentioned, said he wished he could've known more from Torre about how regularly he'd play. The blogger presented this as another in recent revelations that Torre was inept. Giambi was out injured the entire month of June and July last year (first game back was August 7). At some point during the season he told a reporter that he took "stuff" (referring to steroids).
  • Other years he had other issues yet for $120 million he had to be "ready" to DH? In spite of everything, I've overall been a fan of Giambi and his contributions on the field and in the clubhouse. He likes being at 1B, fine. For a reputable Yankee blogger to cite a comment from Jason Giambi--of all people--and about his playing time, of all things, as proof of Torre's total disasterhood makes things look even bleaker in the world of Yankee information. To me.
