Immortality for extra special BBWAA members....

VETERANS COMMITTEE FOR 2007 BASEBALL HALL OF FAME includes;
  • The Historical Overview Committee--11 baseball writers appointed by the BBWAA's Board of Directors developed a ballot of 10 managers and umpires;
the committee members (referenced in this HOF press release 11/8/07) were: DECIDING THE FATE OF MANAGERS/UMPIRES FOR THE HALL OF FAME INCLUDES 3 MEDIA MEMBERS: (Referenced in this HOF press release, 11/08/07) DECIDING THE FATE OF EXECUTIVES FOR THE 2007 HALL OF FAME INCLUDES 3 MORE MEDIA MEMBERS (referenced in this HOF press release 11/08/07): (The revamped electors group this year neatly kept Marvin Miller out, per news analysis).
  • P.S. Bud Selig is on the Board of Directors of the Hall of Fame.
On 7/28/07 on baseballhalloffame.org is the following passage about voting and ballots which I can't translate exactly. Items from that website do not copy, so I'm transcribing here:
  • "The Historical Overview Committee, which consists of 10 writers and historians
  • appointed by the Secretary-Treasurer of the BBWAA,
will continue to formulate both ballots, with the living Hall-of-Famers taking over as the screening committee from a 60-member group of BBWAA members."...
  • This references a 10 member Historical Overview Committee ALL APPOINTED BY THE SAME PERSON, JACK O'CONNELL (sec.-treas. of the BBWAA).
The article is also written by...Jack O'Connell, listed as a Hall of Fame reporter. (The HOF press release of 11/8/07 references a Historical Overview Committee of 11 members appointed by a Board. This article by O'Connell notes a Historical Overview Committee of only 10 members, all appointed by O'Connell).
