1. "STAND BY YOUR MAN," by Tammy Wynette ********STAND BY PHIL HUGHES AND MELKY.
2. "ARE YOU SURE HANK DONE IT THIS WAY?" by Waylon Jennings--(lyric continues, 'WELL, I DON'T THINK HANK DONE IT THIS WAY..." ***********
THIS MEANS YOU, HANK. DON'T DO IT THIS WAY, DON'T THROW OUT THE FRANCHISE'S JEWELS FOR THE CHANCE TO CHAT WITH ANOTHER MERCENARY LOOKING TO CASH IN. YOU ALREADY HAVE PROVEN YANKEES--YOU NEVER KNOW ABOUT NEW GUYS, ESPECIALLY PITCHERS.
Its funny that in Madden's interview with Hank when asked about trading young players for veterans he said its not the same as when we traded Drabek for Rhoden, Johan's 28 not 32 or 33. It was odd to me because that trade while horrible was one of the better giveaways the Yankees made in the sense at least Rhoden was decent.
Of my horrible childhood memories It's down the list for me. It was Hank's first thought though which tells me he was involved at the time and was against it. Odd too that he made it about age. Rhoden was good while Santana is an undeniably great pitcher. It would have been easier to defend it that way. I think Hank had to be talked in to this trade.
Don't know if your 100 percent against adding Johan Santana, I'm not at this price I pass. I would make a fair an Substantial offer. I don't wanna trade IPK but I'd do it. I rule out Hughes not becuase I love him (although I kinda have thing for Melkey) but becuase I'm 100 percent sure he going to be great and over the next 5 or 6 years a better pitcher than Santana. Sometimes you can look at a player and know their going to be really really good. I knew Andy Pettite would be good. Right away I knew he'd be good and it was strange cuz their he was a good pitcher in his early 20's and a Yankee. It was like we were in the Twilight Zone. I see Hughes the same way only unlike Andy he has filthy stuff. That curveball oh God please Hank come to your senses and listen to your inner voice. Don't do it.
Interesting, James. Hank seems to be the X factor here. I'm for keeping the young players we've developed, especially Hughes and Melky. The blueprint of overpriced mercenaries has not worked. I'd only be interested in Santana as a free agent, nothing in trade. And even then, no more than 4 years.
