Jon Heyman, SI.com on with Mike and Chris re he can't seem to accept reality.

Heyman forgets the Yankees lose money, the only thing keeping them afloat is reportedly the YES Network. The Yankees only own 30-40% of that, and much or all of the remaining shares are being shopped. Gerry Cardinale's published statement is that any new owners would want a say in how the games are broadcast. So this alleged bankroll is anything but stable, the media ignore this, and continue to say as Heyman does today on WFAN that the Yankees should spend the approx. $150 million to get a pitcher with a lot of mileage on him, who hasn't broken down much--therefore logically is a candidate to do so, and for a long term deal--which is NEVER a good bet for a free agent pitcher who'd be 29 years old starting for you. On top of that, Heyman thinks the Yankees should provide the Twins with about half a team for the next 10-15 years, ie Phil Hughes, Melky, and at least 2 top prospects.
  • Even the average person knows Brian Cashman is a "baseball man," whereas Hank Steinbrenner has only recently become involved with it. Yet Jon Heyman a supposed baseball expert, his voice squeaking with emphasis, says Brian Cashman "should listen to Hank" and do the Santana deal. Why does anyone listen to Heyman? He's advocating a disaster for the Yankee organization. He's advocating a deal that's unsound from any angle, and using as one of his sales points what he knows is the emotional pitch of the less baseball savvy Hank over the team's architect Cashman.
