Curt Schilling May Still Get $1 million for 1 vote--Baseball "writers" do dramatic flip-flop
- 1. On the 7-0 vote, what are the names and affiliations of the voters?
- 2. What BBWAA members are tendering their resignation from this group, especially among those who recently voted for the other side on this issue?
- 3. Why shouldn't the BBWAA be removed from awards voting immediately?
- "Retreating from the hardline it adopted at the recent Winter Meetings, the Baseball Writers' Association of America has decided on a moratorium on its resolution to disqualify from its awards players who can earn bonuses through them.
The BBWAA's board of directors voted 7-0 on Thursday to table implementation of the resolution, which had been approved by a 41-21 membership vote on Wednesday.
While the original resolution called for the ban to begin in 2013, allowing time to consider alternatives to a system that makes baseball writers who vote on the awards "uncomfortable," this decision was made to prioritize meetings with MLB and Major League Players Association representatives to address those issues."
- (INTERESTING--THEN IT'S NOT REALLY THE BBWAA'S AWARDS AS THEY STATE. TYPICALLY THAT'S THE EXCUSE THEY USE TO DEFLECT QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR VOTING APPOINTMENTS AND PROCEDURES. SO THESE AWARDS ARE OFFICIALLY NOW IN THE HIGH STAKES POLITICAL ARENAS OF MLB, PLAYERS AND POSSIBLY...AGENTS.) sm
From the MLB.com article: "Said the BBWAA in a statement, "It is the goal of the BBWAA to work out a compromise acceptable to everyone."
- (WE AWAIT THAT OUTCOME). sm
"Affected are the major awards determined by a panel of BBWAA voters: the league Most Valuable Player, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards."
