VERDUCCI: TREVOR HOFFMAN GOING TO HALL OF FAME!!!

Tom Verducci confirmed today on Mike and the Mad Dog program on WFAN and the YES Network that Trevor Hoffman will go to the Hall of Fame! For a pitcher with a losing record in the National League this is a great accomplishment. Mike and Chris mentioned the easy stats 'compiling' and big game failures including post season and All Star, but Verducci, an international celebrity and "Conscience of the Game" frequently showcased on YES Network programs, had no reaction, just said he's going to the Hall!
  • Regular Season W/L: 53-60
  • Post Season W/L: 1-2
  • All Star W/L: 0-1
International celebrity Tim Kurkjian agrees. Tim has said his HOF vote is the most sacred part of his life, acknowledges Hoffman doesn't meet criteria of greatest athletes, but will still vote for him on the first ballot. Tuesday on ESPN radio, Kurkjian said the greatest athletes are judged by how they perform in the highest stakes situations, stated there's sufficient track record now to show Hoffman does not perform in the toughest spots (from at least 1998 to the present), but will vote for him anyway.
  • Either cancel Baseball Awards or remove the BBWAA. If voters openly admit someone doesn't qualify but vote for him anyway, the awards should be canceled.
