Ron Darling predicted Tom Glavine's debacle on Sunday--the Ump Joe West
"DARLING'S PITCH: Ron Darling's first-guesses are usually right.
He proved that again Sunday on Ch. 11, predicting big trouble for Tom Glavine before Florida's seven-run assault began.
- Darling was quick to explain the ramifications of Joe West working behind the plate. "He's worked a couple of games with Glavine this year," Darling said. "And he's not given him that strike zone Glavine is accustomed to."
After Cabrera singled past a diving David Wright, driving in Dan Uggla with the first Marlins run, Hernandez said the Florida third baseman had hit a very good pitch, giving Darling more reason to continue spinning his cautionary tale.
"It's not a good sign when you're making your pitches and they are getting base hits," Darling said. "That's the same thing that happened to Glavine in his last start against Washington.""
