Bobby Valentine: "I already have a job."--NY Times

• On Girardi, Valentine:

"Girardi is a broadcaster for YES and has turned down job interviews with the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles. He could emerge as a candidate to succeed Torre, but he said little in a brief telephone interview yesterday.

“It’s uncomfortable,” Girardi said, adding, “No one has contacted me.”

• Steinbrenner and Cashman also think highly of Bobby Valentine, the former Mets manager whose Japanese team, the Chiba Lotte Marines, has a working agreement with the Boston Red Sox. Asked yesterday if he would be interested in becoming the Yankees’ manager, Valentine said in an e-mail message, “I already have a job.”

A long-shot candidate is Trey Hillman, a former Yankees minor league manager who led the Nippon Ham Fighters to the 2006 Japan Series title (Valentine’s team won in 2005). The Yankees are fond of Hillman, but his profile is probably too low."

P.S. I thought the Valentine comment was funny. I only included the Girardi quote, "It's uncomfortable," because I thought it very odd.
