The deed is done--Harvey Schiller elected Pres. of IBAF

BEIJING -- Harvey Schiller was elected president of the International Baseball Federation on Friday, charged with getting the sport back into the Olympics.

Schiller won the election at an IBAF delegates meeting in the Chinese capital, polling 58 votes to 29 for Reynaldo Gonzalez of Cuba. Schiller will fill the unexpired term of Aldo Notari, who died last year.

Baseball was voted out of the games in 2005 by the International Olympic Committee. It will be played in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but will be absent in 2012 in London. It could, however, be reinstated by the IOC as early as 2009, which would put it back in the 2016 Olympics.
