"Reporters doing punditry put themselves into a perilous place."

"From Washington Post congressional reporter Jonathan Weisman's chat on WashingtonPost.com,
  • Harrington Park, N.J.: What do you make of the public criticism [last item] of Michael Gordon of The Times following his appearance on Charlie Rose where he voiced his opinion about Iraq?
  • Jonathan Weisman: Reporters on television -- and in on-line chats -- put themselves into a perilous place. We are supposed to keep our opinions to ourselves, and at the same time, be engaging and fun."
***Baseball reporters and many BBWAA members ARE NO DIFFERENT IN THIS REGARD THAN NEWS REPORTERS AND ARE PERCEIVED SIMILARLY BY THEMSELVES AND CONSUMERS. They use words like CONSCIENCE and JUDGMENT, and influence enormous financial outcomes.
  • WHY SHOULDN'T THEY ALSO KEEP THEIR OPINIONS TO THEMSELVES? And why am I the only one who cares? sm***
