"WHO OWNS BATTING AVERAGES? Fantasy League Company says stats should be free"

The company has a court date this summer in St. Louis to attempt to settle the disagreement with MLB Advanced Media. Until recently, CBC & CDM Fantasy Sports Leagues had been paying a percentage to the Players Association. But, in January 2005, MLB made a $50 million payout to the Players Assn. for all rights to stats and likenesses. MLB now says it won't issue a license to the fantasy league to continue its use of stats. Something is very wrong here. Baseball stats should be free, or at least available at minimal charge. This report is from AP.
