Added, 9/16/13: Mariano Rivera has received a lot of recognition in the media recently. For many years, this wasn't the case. It wasn't the case in 2005. Mostly Rivera was ignored, minimized, misrepresented, or if he was mentioned, it was: "closers like Hoffman and Rivera." The two aren't similar pitchers of course. For many years the media was focused on Trevor Hoffman with interludes devoted to Eric Gagne, Papelbon, Krod, and others. In Dibble's case, he spoke many times of his close friendship with Hoffman and Hoffman's regular season save stat achievement. As of Sept. 2013 it's fair to say Rivera has had the full media spotlight but this wasn't the case for many years. I think Rivera's 2009 post season (parags. 14-16) changed Dibble's mind for the better about Rivera. Dibble overall is great on radio and I wish he were still on XM.
