Yankee radio can be a few seconds ahead of tv, a few seconds behind tv, or live which it usually is for home games-NY Radio Message Bd. commenters
3/3/13, "Yankees WCBS radio broadcast delays," NY Radio message board

"Today's (Sun.) Yankees spring training game radio broadcast on WCBS 880 was behind the TV broadcast on the YES network. For last Sunday's game (the last game that was both on radio and TV), the radio broadcast was ahead of the TV broadcast. Last year during the regular season, for Yankees home games, the radio was always ahead of TV. For Yankees road games, the radio was always behind the TV. When I was at Yankee stadium last year, the radio was always live (which was good for me) so it appears that they only delayed the radio broadcasts for road games. Has any official statement ever been made why some radio broadcasts are delayed and how they decide which games to delay?"

"WCBS normally broadcasts in HD Radio (IBOC) This system requires a 8.3 second delay to their normal signal so that it syncs to the digital. Because there are many in stadium listeners, such as yourself, home games are broadcast analog, without delay as a courtesy."

"That would be an explanation for the regular season but would explain why the first "home" spring training game radio broadcast had no delay and the 2nd "home" spring training game radio broadcast was delayed? Is the radio station also in "spring training mode" testing that they can broadcast without a delay and then broadcast with a delay?"

"WCBS used to turn off the HD Radio during Yankees games, to eliminate the delay. Maybe this time they forgot."

"Can a major radio station like WCBS "forget" something like that? Is there nobody (except the audience) that is listening to the broadcast?"
